Quarterly domestic ATM cash withdrawal number in the Netherlands 2005-2021
The volume of debit card payment transactions increased with every passing year. Also, the use of NFC payments increased in the Netherlands. In the fourth quarter of 2014, approximately 0,5 percent of the total debit card payments consisted of NFC payments. Two years later, this reached a share of 23 percent. In 2016, approximately 50 percent of all contactless payments had a transaction amount of ten euros or less.
ATM cash withdrawals made in the Netherlands decreased by over 60 percent in the period between 2005 and 2021. Cash became less important in the country as Dutch consumers increasingly paid for their purchases by debit card.
